While we get an extra day off to relax with our family and friends, it’s also an extra day to reflect on the millions of people who gave their lives to help protect our country and our freedom. Even though people often know how they want to spend their extended holiday weekend, we wanted to highlight some of the fun events happening for Memorial Day Weekend 2019 in Chicago, IL.

Of course, each year thousands of people come to State Street to watch the annual Memorial Day Parade. The event will be starting at 11 am on Saturday, May 25, with the wreath laying ceremony and dedication of the General John A. Logan Monument, as the parade will begin at noon.

However, with the extended weekend, people won’t be spending all of their time off at the parade. Another way to learn about some of our military history is by visiting museums such as the Pritzker Military Museum & Library.
Many people especially love this extra day off because it falls right in spring when the weather is warm and sunny. A good old fashioned cookout is another wonderful way to celebrate and reflect on the holiday with your loved ones with good food and good laughs.
