Frequency of windshield wiper changes

Windshield wipers are not always on the top of our minds until we need to use them. Then we get into wondering how often we actually need to change them. We have all the answers you need and more. Keep reading!

The short and simple answer

The range of time before you need to replace your windshield wipers is typically between six months to a year. While we suggest this range, once visibility starts to go, you should look into changing your wiper blades. Some examples include if they are skipping, splitting, streaking or squeaking on your windshield.

Inspect your wipers

Some ways to check whether or not you need to change your blades is by looking at the frame to see if there’s any detachment, metal corrosion, visible cracks or tears and if the squeegee is still flexible. Some reasons your wipers deteriorate are due to sun exposure, oil, airborne debris and moisture from saltwater or acid rain

How to make your wipers last longer

There are a few simple steps you can take to extend the life of your wiper blades. These steps include cleaning your windshield every time you fill up your fuel tank and wipe the rubber squeegee with a damp paper towel so there is no loose dirt or oil. During the winter, never try to use your wiper blades to de-ice your windshield and pull your wiper blades away from your windshield when you are not using your vehicle to prevent ice build-up.
