Car and Garage Spring Cleaning Checklist

Car and Garage Spring Cleaning Checklist

It’s the first day of spring, and you know what that means. It’s finally warm enough outside for you to clean out the garage and car without getting frost bite. Most of us are so excited to enjoy the weather that we hardly even mind doing chores if we can feel the sun on our skin. Spring is the perfect time to do your cleaning because it’s not so hot that you will start dripping sweat just as soon as you put in any effort. To help you get started, we’re providing a handy checklist to get you organized for your car and garage spring cleaning.

Garage Spring Cleaning Checklist

  • Remove items from shelving, top down, working in zones
  • Move these items outside of the garage, if possible
  • Create keep/toss piles for all items from the garage, working in zones
  • Toss/donate items you haven’t used in the past year
  • Check disposal methods for any chemicals you hope to discard
  • Clean any shelves/bins before restoring items to their place, working top down
  • Clean cobwebs and walls
  • Clean the inside of the garage door
  • Sweep garage floor
  • Mop, scrub or pressure wash floor with a degreaser
  • Organize “keep” items in garage, buying shelving, pegboard or bins if necessary
  • Create a space for sporting and lawn equipment
  • Create a space for tools and commonly used items

Car Spring Cleaning Checklist

  • Completely remove all items from your car, throwing out garbage as you go
  • Vacuum all surfaces: seats, cup holders, inside the glovebox, dashboard floormats and carpet under the floormats, trunk
  • Wipe down all hard surfaces with an all-purpose cleaner
  • Condition leather or use upholstery cleaner
  • Clean windows and mirrors with glass cleaner
  • Clean exterior of the car (car wash or DIY, remembering your undercarriage and tires)
  • Check and replace wiper blades
  • Top off or change fluids
  • Get an oil change
  • Check belts and hoses
  • Test A/C to ensure it functions for the summer
  • Check tire tread, switch out winter tires and get a tire rotation

After you work through these two checklists, your garage and car will be completely read for the spring and summer ahead. We hope you find them helpful. Be sure to check back here at the Glendale Nissan Blog for more automotive tips and tricks.
