Where is the VIN located on Nissan?

Many of us can’t remember our license plat numbers without looking, so how can we know our VIN right off the top of our head? You won’t often use your Nissan VIN, but when you do you’ll want to know where it’s located.

Your VIN is 17 numbers and letters

Your VIN is to your car what your social security number is to you. Well, it’s a bit more complicated than that, but it is a specific number that points to one, just one car. This makes it useful not only for registration, but for identification in a variety of other ways. When you buy a used car, you can check the VIN of the vehicle to get a complete history report. Typically, when you get a service, you’ll have your VIN entered into the service center system so repairs are automatically entered every time you visit.

Because the VIN is specific to a vehicle, it also helps to deter thieves as stolen vehicle VINs will be entered in the MVR database.

So where can you find your VIN when you need it? The number is located on a small plaque near the bottom of the windshield on the driver’s side of your Nissan. This one can be hard to see, but luckily the VIN is also placed in the driver’s side door jamb and in the firewall of the engine bay.

Another fun fact about your VIN? A VIN decoder can give you a full list of features for a specific vehicle. Curious about the color or the radio system? Each code comes from the manufacturer and notes things like color, trim level and more.
