Why does Nissan use a CVT in many models

Some said manuals were more efficient, but that depended on driving style, and there’s no doubt that an automatic has a shorter learning curve and requires less skill. It seems the winds are blowing in a different direction now, as Nissan has changed over to a CVT in many models, but why? We look at the benefits of continuously variable transmissions. Up until a few years ago, the same could be said about a Cummins engine and RAM. For those who haven’t been keeping up with the news, but are aware of this previous partnership, we often hear people asking why Nissan has a Cummins engine, specifically, for the 2017 Nissan Titan. How does Nissan keep its V8 efficient

How does Nissan keep its V8 efficient?

When you look at the fuel economy figures for either the full-size 2017 Nissan Armada or the 2017 Nissan Titan, efficiency is unlikely to be the first word that comes to mind. Your Armada only gets 14 city and 19 highway mpg, while the Titan doesn’t fare much better with a 15 city and 21 highway mpg rating. Still, once you realize that these larger models have V8 engines, you might rethink whether these numbers are as bad as they seem. Nissan actually offers an innovative design that allows its V8 to more efficient than the competition, just so long as that competition is other V8 engines. Read the rest of this entry »

Upcoming Nissan plug-in hybrid technology

If you look at the Nissan lineup, you might find it odd that one thing is missing: plug-in hybrids. In fact, even standard hybrids are fairly sparse. The brand’s first option, the Altima Hybrid, has been missing from the lineup for years. Currently, if you’re looking for options, the 2017 Nissan Rogue Hybrid is the only one you’ll readily find, and it’s still a difficult model to come by. The reason for this seems clear enough: efficiency numbers rarely make up for initial cost. Now, it seems, Nissan is working with Mitsubishi in adding plug-in hybrid technology to the lineup.
