Choosing Between the Nissan Rogue and Nissan Rogue Select

Wednesday, February 5th, 2025

Nissan has a variety of SUV models, but it can sometimes be tricky to figure out how they all compare against each other. When conducting a Nissan Rogue comparison, it’s important to consider how the latest model stacks up against earlier versions, like the Nissan Rogue Select.

The Nissan Rogue and Rogue Select might initially sound similar, but they have some important differences. For starters, as of 2025, the Rogue is Nissan’s go-to compact SUV, while the Rogue Select was phased out after the 2015 model year. So, if you’re interested in the Nissan Rogue Select, your best bet is to look for a used one.

Now, let’s look at the key differences between these two models to help you decide the right fit for you.

Trims

The 2025 Nissan Rogue is available in five trims, giving you more options to find something that works for you:

  • S
  • SV
  • SL
  • Platinum
  • Rock Creek

The Rogue Select, on the other hand, was a variant of the first-generation Rogue and only came in one base trim, ‘the S trim.’

Interior Space

For a roomier, more comfortable experience, the 2025 Rogue provides 105.4 cubic feet of passenger space and 36.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the second row. When you need extra space, folding the rear seats down opens up 74.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity.

In contrast, the Rogue Select offers 102.9 cubic feet of passenger space and 39.3 cubic feet of cargo room with the seats up or 57.9 cubic feet with the seats down.

Materials

The 2025 Rogue features soft-touch plastics and leather-appointed seating in higher trims like the SL and Platinum, whereas the Rogue Select used more utilitarian materials, namely hard plastics and basic cloth upholstery throughout its interior.

Powertrain

Powertrain performance sees a significant upgrade, with the 2025 model featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with an updated CVT.

In comparison, the Rogue Select had a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that put out 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, with an older CVT. This setup resulted in a less responsive drive and slightly lower fuel efficiency.

Technology

Compared to the Rogue Select, the 2025 Nissan Rogue is packed with modern tech upgrades:

  • Infotainment: The 2025 Rogue has a much larger 8-inch touchscreen on the base model, with higher trims offering a 12.3-inch touchscreen. It also includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Conversely, the Rogue Select had a much smaller 5-inch display and didn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • Driver Assistance: The 2025 model is equipped with Safety Shield 360, which includes useful features like automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Rogue Select, however, only offered basic features like an optional rearview camera.

What’s the difference between Nissan Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes?

Difference between Nissan driving modes

When you drive a Nissan, you might notice you have the opportunity to experience different driving modes. If, like many of us, you’re accustomed to a vehicle that has one driving mode, you might be confused about what the difference is between the Eco, Normal, and Sport driving modes in your vehicle. For Nissan owners who have been keeping it on the standard “Normal” mode the whole time you’ve owned the vehicle, you might want to consider your other Nissan driving modes.

Why use different driving modes?

Traditionally, you get just one driving mode in automatic or CVT-equipped vehicles. Put your key in the ignition or push start and you’re off. But what if you could change your driving mode? This is the thought behind the Eco, Normal, and Sport driving mode selection.

So what do they do?

Your Normal driving mode is just that. The everyday mode you might use that feels well-paced and offers average fuel economy ratings. Think of it as the mode you’re used to when you don’t have the options of other modes.

Eco mode is just as it sounds. It’s the most economical mode and is best saved for longer trips. It’s a bit like putting a leash on power, as it limits acceleration, so it isn’t ideal for trips around town when you have a lot of stop-and-go traffic situations.  Eco mode is best used when you’re spending a long time on the highway. Whether you’re going on a road trip, have a long commute, or are simply driving far to visit friends and family. If you’d be inclined to use cruise control, you might as well switch on Eco mode to save some fuel while you’re at it.

Finally, there’s Sport mode, which you might consider the opposite of Eco mode. Instead of throttling you back to save fuel, you’re given more power to hold a higher RPM before automatically shifting into the next gear. This makes it more fun to drive. It also means you won’t be as efficient, so it’s not necessarily a mode to try all the time. It also only works at speeds above 20 mph, so it’s another mode you might save for when you know you’ll be going faster.
