How Does Nissan Automatic Emergency Braking Work?

Today’s vehicles are safer than ever before, and there are many reasons for that. From airbags to better engineering, advancements in automotive safety make it easy to have peace of mind in your Nissan. Of course, advanced technologies also play a role with this, such as Automatic Emergency Braking. If your Nissan is equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking, you may have some questions about how it works, and we’re here to help with that. Read on to learn more.

First of all, let’s explain how the system operates and then we’ll answer some more advanced questions. To put it simply, Automatic Emergency Braking uses radar sensors to detect when an impending forward collision may be unavoidable and will respond accordingly.

If the system determines that there is the potential for a forward collision, it will attempt to alert the driver to take action. It does this through an audible warning and a visual warning in the instrument cluster. If the braking force is insufficient, the vehicle can automatically brake in order to avoid a collision or at least lessen the damage. Some vehicles may also have a system called Pedestrian Detection that works similarly but is designed specifically to watch out for pedestrians.

Do You Have to Turn on Automatic Emergency Braking?

One common question that comes up with this system is whether or not it needs to be turned on. The answer is, no. You do not need to turn on or off Automatic Emergency Braking. It is always active and working in the background. The exception to this is if you were to receive an alert that the system is not operational.

Some may also wonder if Automatic Emergency Braking can be relied on in all braking situations. The answer to that is also, no. Although Automatic Emergency Braking is designed to help you as the driver avoid forward collisions, you should not rely on it to handle all braking situations for you. The system only activates in emergency situations.

Now that you see how Nissan’s Automatic Emergency Braking works, you can feel assured that your Nissan is watching out for you and others. To learn more about anything and everything Nissan, check back to the Glendale Nissan blog.
