Third-generation Nissan Frontier announced

It used to be that vehicles would go years and years between new generations and refreshes, simply because it’s an expensive undertaking for an automaker. These days, we expect to see a refresh after two or three years, and a complete redesign after five or six. Which is what makes the Nissan Frontier so odd. The current model is in its second generation, which started in 2005. That’s right, 12 years ago. Other markets, where the model is known as the Navara, saw an update in 2014. Finally, a third-generation Nissan Frontier should be heading to the U.S.

When will the new Nissan Frontier come out?

With no updates for so long, many Nissan fans have been wondering if it was a signal that the Frontier was on its way out. Finally, Nissan has made it clear that an update is coming, though we’re unlikely to see it until 2019. It’s unknown how this new generation will affect pricing, with the current model year coming in at a starting MSRP of $18,390. It’s one of the most affordable pickup trucks on the market, and we’d be surprised if Nissan didn’t keep things that way.

Not much is confirmed regarding plans for the next generation Nissan Frontier, aside from the fact that it will be built at the Canton, Mississippi plant. Will there be new engine options, or simply refreshes to its appearance? Despite its age, the Nissan Frontier is still a hot seller among fans, which proves the point that if something isn’t broken, you don’t always have to fix it.
