Is an SUV version of the Nissan Navara coming to the US?

While Nissan is highly successful here, the United States is not the only country where its vehicles are sold. Across the globe, Nissan has different variations of the vehicles we’re familiar with here, like the Rogue which is known as the Qashqai overseas.

Also, some vehicles are only available in select regions; therefore, when Nissan is spied testing a new vehicle, we can’t always automatically assume that it’s coming our way, and as of late, people are questioning if there is an SUV version of the Nissan Navara coming to the U.S.

First things first. The Nissan Navara. What is it? Although the Navara isn’t sold over here, if you take a look to the right, it bears a striking resemblance to one that we do have–the Frontier. This is because the Navara is the global version of the Frontier, and what was recently spotted testing was an SUV version of the Navara.

Where would the Nissan Nevara fit in the US lineup?

An SUV like this would be the perfect replacement for the Nissan Xterra which no longer made the cut after 2015. Having an SUV, with a little extra off-road capability like this, would slot perfectly between the Nissan Murano and Pathfinder.

Nissan Navara SUV Engine Specs

The Murano is able to seat five while the Pathfinder offers a third row of seating and can accommodate up to seven. We would assume that the Navara/Frontier-based SUV would be able to seat seven and more than likely would share the same engine offerings with the Navara.

While there isn’t a diesel option for the midsize Nissan Frontier, the all-new Titan XD does show off a brand new Cummins turbo diesel. As for the Navara, its engine choices include: 2.3L turbocharged diesel, 2.3L twin-turbo diesel, and 2.5L gas engine.

Whether or not a Navara-based SUV would make it here to the U.S. doesn’t seem likely. We tend to appreciate more modern-looking vehicles that stock up on luxuries and creature comforts. If there is something coming our way to fill the space that the Xterra once occupied, it might be some time and probably won’t be anything based on the Navara/Frontier.

We say this because there hasn’t been any mention of an upcoming redesign for the Frontier, and because of this, Nissan wouldn’t build a brand new SUV on an old platform like this. Right now, Nissan has its attention focused on the best-selling Rogue, the refreshed Pathfinder, brand new Armada, and the all-new Titan XD.
