Why create a system for recycling aluminum parts?

As a way to help reduce CO2 emissions, Nissan has introduced a “closed-loop” recycling system that reuses factory waste aluminum parts to help reduce its footprint on mined resources. Doing this saves more than 90% of the energy that would otherwise have been used to create the materials. As part of the process, scrap material is shredded and then collected through a conveyance system. They then are separated into different grades of aluminum to ensure only high-quality scraps are kept. Eventually, they are made into sheets which are made into important vehicle parts.

The future of the Nissan Green Program

By 2022, Nissan wants to replace 30% of the raw materials used in its cars with the recycled materials. The recycling will be carried out by suppliers and in-house. They also aim to create lighter vehicles with these materials. Some goals of the Nissan Green Program include product CO2 emission reduction, electric vehicle leadership, improvement of cabin air quality, development of biomaterials, proper use of chemical substances and creating an education program for next-generation.
