The state of automotive technology has turned into one in which we are more and more focused on features that can prevent us from distraction. With smartphones always in our hands when not driving, automakers are tasked with finding ways to keep them out of our hands while we are behind the wheel. The best way to do this? Mixing a digital personal assistant with the infotainment features. There has been a sort of battle for companies to get their technology in your car, and Nissan has chosen to work with Amazon, letting the Amazon Alexa remotely control some features in your vehicle. So what are some of the features we can expect to work in your Nissan?

Amazon Alexa works on 2016 and newer NissanConnect

One of the biggest fears of buying a new car is that an impressive feature will be added just one model year later. If connectivity is important to you, it might be helpful to know that certain model year vehicles from 2016, 2017, 2017.5 and the new 2018 model year will have the option to upgrade the NissanConnect Services to integrate with Amazon Alexa, the personal assistant interface that is part of Echo devices.

Amazon Alexa is a personal assistant device that has a microphone and speaker, with skills that allow it to integrate with various other devices. A new skill for the Amazon Alexa, “NissanConnected Services” will be completely free to add through the Amazon Skills Store, though a NissanConnected Services subscription is required. Some features will include remote lock/unlock, honking the horn, flashing the lights and starting or stopping the engine, depending on the model.
